From the Director’s desk

The beginning of the new year is a good time to reflect on the year past and the year ahead.
Port Pirie Regional Art Gallery had a busy and successful year in 2009 with a return to healthy visitor numbers (after the drop in numbers during 2008 because of high fuel prices), and a diverse exhibition programme that supported some wonderful events – the highlights for me were the openings for Australia’s Muslim Cameleers, and Line, Tone, Colour, an exhibition of works by talented local artist, Clan Rodda. Clan’s exhibition is world class and I urge you to come along to the Gallery to have a look before it closes on 24 January.
Our 2010 exhibition programme promises to be an exciting and engaging one with exhibitions of works from local artists through to nationally touring shows. We hope to focus more on building our public program (workshops, artist talks, etc) and increasing community awareness of the Gallery and its activities. Any thoughts from our membership would be gratefully received!
I will continue to keep in touch through the newsletter – and feel free to pop into the Gallery office to say ‘hello’ if you’re having a look at our latest exhibition.

Bye for now!

Sportsart

Sport is the theme and creativity is the name of the game! The boundary line is set by your own imagination – painting, sculpture, photography, short film, etc
Port Pirie Regional Art Gallery wants a piece of the Masters’ Games action in 2010 and is calling for entries for an exciting exhibition SPORTSART to be held from 1 April to 18 April 2010
The exhibition is open to individuals and teams and prizes will be awarded in each category (to be decided) by People’s Choice
So get SPORTSARTY, there’s a whole season of footy, netball, cricket, tennis and softball as well as rowing, soccer, swimming, sailing, etc to get inspired by!
It’s simple!
Just register your interest at info@pprag.org or 08 8633 0681
You will be contacted early in 2010 with more information about the exhibition
Sport and art can be on the same team – together we can make it happen!
