The Port Pirie Art Prize was opened and prize winners announced by Mayor Benton Vanstone of Port Pirie Regional Council with Geoff Brock, Independent Member for Frome announcing the Youth Encouragement Award which he also sponsored at Port Pirie Regional Art Gallery on Saturday 10 September at 2pm. Performances by Sue Chivell and Chloe McBride were enjoyed by around 80 visitors, members, artists and families. 82 artworks by 43 artists from around South Australia, were judged by Rob Johnston, freelance artist - retired Visual Arts Touring Manager for Country Arts SA and Lis Jones Ingman, Exhibitions Coordinator at Burra Regional Art Gallery and artist. Major Prize presented to Southern Flinders Artist Award presented to Photographic Award presented to Youth Encouragement Award - Sponsored by Geoff Brock - Member for Frome Merit Awards were presented to Tina Moore (Laura) for her work "Cormorants on Number 15" AND Joel Plevin (Wilmington) for his work "Blue Remarkable Range" People's Choice Award was presented to People's Choice Award Proudly Sponsored by
Patterns of Spirituality - A Search for Meaning Art Award Announced
Desert Voices choir from Port Augusta, opened the proceedings with their wonderfully smooth harmonies, followed by a moving talk by Bishop Kelly, Catholic Diocese of Port Pirie and Bishop Garry Weatherill, Anglican Diocese of Willochra. Then the announcement of award winners by Terry Boylan, major sponsor of the Patterns of Spirituality - A Search for Meaning Art Award. 84 entries by 54 artists from around South Australia were judged by John Voumard, John Held and Peter Serwan. Major Prize presented to The Artist resident in the Dioceses Award presented to Youth Encouragement Awards presented to AND Ben Nicholls People's Choice Award was presented to Ending the afternoon were Caltowie Harmony Chorus who were enjoyed by all. Thank you to the Anglican Parish Guild for catering and providing such excellent service, and to Will Brooks for the coordination of the Art Award, to the Sponsors of the Art Award for which would not be possible without, and to the Judges for the difficult decision choosing the Award winners.
