3ELEMENTS- sculptures by Stephen Schwark
Local metal sculptor Stephen Schwark brings his first major exhibition to Port Pire. 3ELEMENTS is based on three natural elements - water, earth and air - and the major animals relating to these elements. Scrap metal being the medium gives an exciting and very original look. Stephen takes the materials through an amazing transformation from bleak rusted metal to a brand new creature. These sculptures are his biggest and best yet - a truly original experience you must see. |

Ancient Inspirations - new work by Aboriginal artists from the Port Pirie Region
An exciting exhibition of new works by Aboriginal artists of the Port Pirie region. The participating artists bring a diverse range of language groups together. The artists are exploring and experimenting with new ideas in their new 'home' and the outcome is a myriad of styles. |
Ripples in the Sand
The different clans and language groups who have journeyed to and through Port Augusta have brought the seeds of their experience and planted them in that country. Ripples in the Sand weaves together the different threads, stories and elements of Aboriginality in Port Augusta - the new generation's story. This exhibition was commissioned for the first ever Yarnballa (a Barngala word meaning 'together in company') Arts and Cultural Festival, during the 2008 Regional Centre of Culture, Port Augusta Re-Imagines!
Artists used a variety of media to communicate their stories including painting, glass, ceramics and printmaking.
While the works reflect the lore and knowledge common to many peoples, a number challenge the notion of what Aboriginal art 'should' look like through the use of new techniques introduced during a series of workshops in 2008. In doing so the artists are presented as agents of change in inspiring both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people to appreciate the centrality of connection to country in their lives.

Artists include John Olsen, Jeffrey Smart, Anne Zahalka, Ken Whisson, Ponch Hawkes, John Brack, Fred Williams, Petrina Hicks, George Baldessin, Margaret Cilento and many more.

Recycled Library, Altered Books
Recycled Library, Altered Books is a group exhibition of works by Australian artists that incorporate existing/found books as a major conceptual and creative element. The primary curatorial rationale for the exhibition is to investigate the symbolism of 'the book' in an era in which the printed page is in danger of being superseded by digital technology.
The exhibition focuses on works that have a conceptual, political or social concern and range from the 1970 conceptual work Introduction to a book by Paul Partos (1943-2002) to the beautifully crafted recent work by the Melbourne artist Kylie Stillman (born 1975). Other artists include Jayne Dyer, Simryn Gill, Julie Gough, Paul Hoban, Liz Jeneid, Yvonne Kendall, Archie Moore, Jánis Nedéla, Patrick Pound, Alex Selenitsch, David Swqueira, Glen Skien & Hossein Valmanesh.
