Alfred CooperBiography

Alfred was born in the east end of London in an area where the population were mainly descended from refugees, skilled tradesmen and also silk weavers.

"I learnt to make very good furniture from friends there.  I joined the British Army in September 1938, and went to France in the first group.  I also served in Sicily, Italy, and later returned to France until leaving the army.

After three years in England working as a brick layer, I came to Adelaide with my wife and two children and have lived mainly in the north of South Australia."

Alfred has only begun painting in the last decade and has won the Southern Flinders Artist award in the Port Pirie Art Prize in 2007 and 2008 and has exhibited in Better with Age - Celebrating the work of artists aged 70 to 100 in 2010 at Port Pirie Regional Art Gallery.
